The CDA Seal Program: Validating Industry’s Claims

The CDA Seal Program independently validates specific oral health benefit claims made by the manufacturer of a product. The CDA Seal, and its accompanying statement, are found on products that have successfully completed the CDA review process. For the Canadian consumer, the CDA Seal provides reassurance that the product can improve their oral health in the ways specifically claimed by the manufacturer. For the manufacturer, the CDA Seal differentiates its products in the marketplace by highlighting their validated oral health benefits. To obtain the CDA Seal for a product, manufacturers are required to state the oral health benefit(s) that they ...

Key message: If you harbour even the slightest dream of speaking at a dental convention (large or small) some day, please contact us to discuss the idea of you doing a presentation (or presentations) on Oasis Discussions. Is this a game-changing technology for dentistry?

Colleagues, A press release that came across my desk today particularly caught my attention. It relates to Straumann acquiring an interest in a company called Dental Monitoring. I share this with you as I believe it could be of interest to all in the oral health care sector. My sensitivity to the profound implications of rapid technological change for healthcare in general and oral health care in particular has been heightened through my recent involvement with a CDA Task Force on the Future of the Profession. I will tell you more about that a little later, but first, I invite ...

Tips for a good start to your dental career (#2)

The initial responses I have received to recent Oasis posts asking about the smartest and dumbest decisions colleagues made during their first five years after graduation from dental school, and passing on some of those tips, have been very encouraging and interesting. I wish to share more of these tips over the next few weeks, on an anonymous basis, and I also wish to talk privately in more detail with the colleagues who have indicated to me that they are happy to share more granular information with me – on a confidential basis. The overall goal of this project is ...

Tips for a good start to your dental career (#1)

Below is the first response I received to my recent Oasis post asking about the smartest and dumbest decisions readers made during their first five years after graduation from dental school. I hold the colleague whose message appears below in very high esteem, as a result of positive collaborations over a number of years. Here goes: Hi John, This is a subject about which I have strong feelings. In no way shape or form were we prepared for the emotional and business side of dentistry which can make or break people. I’m sure you also witnessed colleagues going down bad ...

CDA @ Work: CDA Submission to the Consultation on Tax Planning Using Private Corporations

On October 2nd, the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) submitted its brief to the Hon. Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance, as part of the consultation on Tax Planning Using Private Corporations. In the submission, the CDA emphasized that the tax policies that are addressed in the government’s consultation are not “loopholes”, but long-standing tax measures that recognize the risk small business owners take, and their contribution to Canada’s economic and social well-being. Click here to view the CDA’s submission. And on September 27, 2017, Dr. Larry Levin, President of the Canadian Dental Association, and Kevin Desjardins, Director of Public Affairs at ...
