Dr. Mario Brondani
Researcher and Member of the Faculty of Dentistry, UBC
With the COVID-19 pandemic now approaching the one year mark, it is clear that lockdown restrictions are having a significant impact on the mental health and wellness of a great many people.
In this episode of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, invites Dr. Mario Brondani, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry UBC, to introduce a current research project that is assessing the wellness of a wide range of professionals, including dentists.
Funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and led by Dr. Ivy Bourgeault from the University of Ottawa, the survey-based study is inviting all dentists across Canada to participate in an examination of how mental health impacts the work of dental practitioners. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and provides an opportunity for contributors to participate further, should they so wish. All survey entries are anonymous, and the study has received ethics approval from several universities across Canada. It will be open the end of March, at which time it is hoped that some preliminary data will be available. There is also the opportunity to chat with the research team if the participants want to say more – please check the end of the survey.
“We do have some information about how stressful dentistry is, but we don’t have a clear picture of the Canadian dentist. Information gathered will go towards generating solutions to alleviate problems for dentists.”
We hope you find the conversation useful. We welcome your thoughts, questions and/or suggestions about this post and other topics. Leave a comment in the box below or send us your feedback by

Until next time!
