In this edition of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, presents Dr. Firoozeh Samim, specialist in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, with a clinical scenario involving a young female with intermittent swelling of the submandibular gland area who has limited access to specialist care.
Walking through the somewhat limited patient history, Dr. Samim diagnoses a likely blockage of the salivary duct, possibly as a result of a stone. She outlines the common causes of salivary duct blockages, explains how to confirm diagnosis, and offers best practices on both the prevention and the removal of stones from the salivary duct.

Thanks, John. I’ve gone twice to Dr. Samim’s lectures in Newfoundland and Labrador and have attended two of her McGill Zoom pandemic talks(I kind of like that we both have been commuting between NL and Montreal as well). I also asked her for advice about a year and a half ago concerning an interesting lesion in one of my patients living in a remote area. She is an excellent lecturer with a wealth of knowledge about oral pathology.
Happy New Year.
