Many gut and oral health conditions are associated with an underlying dysbiotic state. And a growing number of studies are now showing that many of these conditions, including periodontitis, may benefit from the use of probiotics.
But what are probiotics and what specific applications do they have for oral health?
In this episode of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, talks to Dr. Vinay Bhide, a periodontist from Aurora ON, about the use of probiotics in oral healthcare. Introducing the concept of “oral wellness”, Dr. Bhide outlines the evidence to date in the use of probiotics in common conditions such as periodontitis and halitosis. And although he admits that probiotics may not be a replacement for mechanical therapy, Dr. Bhide suggests that the data is clearly pointing towards their benefit as an adjunct therapy.
