IADH Research Competition 2020 Moves Online

Following the cancellation of the IADH conference in Acapulco, Mexico, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IADH Research Competition 2020 has moved online. IADH members from around the globe were invited to submit poster presentations to an online forum. The response was overwhelming, with over 100 posters submitted, many from young or early career researchers who may not have been able to afford to attend the conference.

The IADH Scientific Committee has now shortlisted 25 posters to be considered for the IADH awards at the online General Assembly on October 3rd, where finalists will face questions from a panel of judges from 4 different countries, with a total of $2500 in award money available to fund individual research projects.

“One of the big advantages is that the online event will showcase many researchers who would not normally get noticed. I hope this format is something that will be repeated in the future.”

In conversation with Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, Dr. Alison Dougall, President Elect of the IADH, speaks of the excitement generated by this year’s event, and the unexpected benefits of moving online. She also expresses her hope that the event will be repeated on an annual basis in the future.

Although the competition is intended to celebrate the research of IADH members, anyone from the dental community is welcome to register and participate in the discussion. Each entry consists of a page with an image of the poster presentation, along with a downloadable PDF. Some entries include video abstracts. An IADH special edition abstract book will also be published later this year, featuring selected posters from the event.
