Endodontics Supporting Your Practice

When Should You Restore an Endodontically Treated Tooth?

One common question among general dentists across Canada is how long they should wait after endodontic treatment before restoring a tooth, either definitively or in an interim manner.

In this short and informative conversation, Dr. Rodrigo Cunha, an Endodontist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, explains to Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, why the best time for a permanent filling is when the patient is still in the chair.

Dr. Cunha also stresses the importance of considering how the tooth is restored, and not just when. He goes on to answer questions on suitable types of restorations, the difference between treating anterior and posterior teeth, what materials to use, and the relationship between the Specialist and the General Dentist.

“If we keep the communication going between dentists, I think that is key”, says Dr. Cunha. “The person that benefits the most is the patient sitting in your chair”.

We hope you find the conversation useful. We welcome your thoughts, questions and/or suggestions about this post and other topics. Leave a comment in the box below or send us your feedback by email.

Do you recommend use vitrobond (glass ionomer) to seal the gutta percha before putting a core or a filling?
