Cybersecurity During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Ever since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, another kind of virus has been taking advantage of the chaos. Cyberattacks, such as phishing emails, have increased by more than 600%, and most are related to the COVID-19 crisis in some way. Fake pandemic updates or tracking maps - attachments and bad links designed to trick us into getting malware downloaded onto our systems.

But following recommendations that dental offices remain closed for all but emergency procedures, many dentists are accessing their systems remotely, and turning to teledentistry for continued communication with their patients. So, what are the security risks associated with remote consults, and how can dentists best protect themselves from cyber attacks?

Anne Genge is a certified Privacy Professional and CEO and Co-Founder of Alexio Corporation, a global healthcare cybersecurity company. In conversation with Chiraz Guessaier, she talks through some key cybersecurity considerations, including how to choose the right teleconferencing platform, and how to access your office network safely from home.

Please note that we will follow up with a more thorough conversation about privacy considerations with the use of teledentistry. A subsequent interview with Geoff Valentine, Associate Director, Practice Support at CDA will be published on CDA Oasis soon.

We hope you you find the conversation helpful. We welcome your thoughts, questions and/or suggestions about this post and other topics. Leave a comment in the box below or send us your feedback by email.

Until next time!
