A Call for Female Mentorship in Dentistry

Today, we see many women work as dentists, however, this was not the case historically. As a result, there are a lack of mentors for female dental students in this generation. To tackle the issues related to women in dentistry today, including a lack of mentorship and less women in higher leadership positions or specialties, or owning a practice, we need to provide more mentorship opportunities for women in dentistry.

Today, Tasha Hou is here to talk about the Women in Dentistry Conference which took place in October 2018 and about the report that she authored, summarizing a workshop held during the conference.

During this brief Oasis discussion, Tasha Hou talks about:

  • The Women in Dentistry Conference including its creation, purpose, and recommendations.
  • Conference workshops focused on issues pertaining to women in dentistry specifically.
  • The workshop held after the conference to drive mentorship programs.
  • Highlights from the workshop report including the need for women in leadership roles and specialty positions.
