Study results for the Xylitol for Adult Caries Trial (XACT)

• Recognizing that cavities among adults is a continuing problem, the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research funded studies to find effective preventive measures that would supplement good oral hygiene, fluoride and regular professional care. One product that is showing promise is Xylitol.
• The results of this study, combined with those of other studies, support the clinical recommendation that patients use xylitol lozenges, given their low cost, low risk, and ease of use, to help prevent root caries.
