Dr. Mario Brondani
Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at UBC
The need for greater diversity, equity and inclusion in workplaces and educational spaces across Canada is a discussion that is long overdue, and the dental profession is no exceptions to this.
In this episode of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, invites Dr. Mario Brondani, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry UBC, to discuss his recent appointment as Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the university.
“The long-term impact will be a profession that is as diverse as the patients it sees. I hope that in the future anybody who has what it takes to become a dentist can apply.”
Dr. Brondani highlights the need to formalize DEI at this time. He outlines his short and long terms goals for the initiative and shares his vision for the dental profession in the future.
We hope you find the conversation useful. We welcome your thoughts, questions and/or suggestions about this post and other topics. Leave a comment in the box below or send us your feedback by email.
Until next time!

I am not a supporter of “social engineering” no matter how much you may believe it to be a “noble ” cause Much of it appears to be just “virtue signaling” There ought to be more emphasis on character witnesses and the ethics of candidates Ethnicity, cultural background or gender are poor if not useless criteria for admission. All patients want are clinical competence and integrity
I don’t know if dental schools conduct personal interviews but that might be a better way to assess the candidate’s character Character trumps diversity
