Celebrating International Women’s Day with Dr. Lynn Tomkins

Dr. Lynn Tomkins
CDA Vice President

As more and more women enter the dental profession, the journey towards gender equality in many of Canada’s dental organizations and academic institutions continues. This coming Monday, 8th March, is International Women’s Day 2021, a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the world, and to raise awareness for women’s equality and gender parity.

“One of the challenges women face is their own reluctance to put themselves out there and say, yes, I can do that. I would like to say to women who are thinking about putting themselves forward that yes, they absolutely can.”

To mark the occasion, Chiraz Guessaier, Manager CDA Oasis, invites Dr. Lynn Tomkins, CDA Vice President and soon-to-be CDA President-elect, to discuss the role of women in Canadian dentistry.

Dr. Tomkins highlights some of the recent progress made by female dentists across Canada and underlines the challenges they face. She shares thoughts on her own journey through organized dentistry and encourages women across the country to put themselves forward for future leadership roles in organized dentistry.
