General Practitioner, Toronto
As the world continues to become ever more conscious of the long term health of our planet, more and more people are accepting their responsibility to be part of the environmental solution. And like any other business, industry or profession, dentistry has its part to play.
Dr. Alida Andersen, a General Practitioner from Toronto, can still recall the precise moment when she realized she needed to do more for the environment:
“It started a few years ago when I watched a documentary called A Plastic Ocean. It was a wakeup call. I realized I needed to do something. Even before the show was over, I was texting friends to tell them to watch it.”
In this edition of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, invites Dr. Andersen to discuss the impact the dental profession has on the environment. She highlights the responsibility dentists have, as scientists and health professionals, to promote not only the health of their patients, but also the health of the planet. She invites dentists to reconsider their practice through an environmentally friendly lens and gives actionable tips on how dentists can be part of the solution by promoting and seeking out dental products that are more sustainable.
“Every single one of us has the power to make a difference. We are the changemakers. We shouldn’t wait for someone else to fix the problem. We should own it. We should take action and come up with a solution.”
Until next time!
