Pre-Enlargement of Root Canals

Dr. Howie Fogel
Endodontist from Winnipeg

When performing root canal treatment, many dentists have been taught that the first thing to do after access preparation is to get working length. But in a tight canal this can lead to complications such as broken files, blocked canals and ledges.

In this latest edition of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. Howie Fogel, endodontist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, presents pre-enlargement of root canals as a solution to this problem.

In conversation with Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, Dr. Fogel explains that pre-enlargement consists of little more than a change in the preparation sequence. Using examples from case studies, he walks through the technique and highlights its many benefits, including improved tactile control, a decrease in post-op pain, and enhanced diagnostics.

Thank you Dr. Fogel for clearly showing an alternative to both crown down and full length initial access. Makes sense! Looking forward to using this technique. Is this always your preferred technique?

Thanks for the pdf summary which made this easy to get completed!
