The Importance of Consulting the Prosthodontist Before Placing an Implant

Dr. Beatrice Leung
Prosthodontist, Toronto
When planning for an implant restoration, it is crucial to always keep the restorative end-goals in mind. And although the placement of the implant should be based upon the design of the restorative treatment, in reality this is not always the case.

In this episode of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. Beatrice Leung, a prosthodontist from Toronto, talks to Dr. John O’Keefe about the importance of consulting a prosthodontist before placing an implant. Dr. Leung highlights the value of the diagnostic wax-up and surgical stent, explains why optimal positioning should be relatively perpendicular to the occlusal plane, irrespective of the position of adjacent teeth, and stresses the importance of taking the time to plan and communicate before placement of the implant.
