A Made-in-Canada Antimicrobial Coating for Masks

What if there was an invisible coating that could be applied to any textile that would kill SARS-CoV-2 virus particles in a matter of minutes? What if this technology was made available to the public online, in drug stores and grocery stores? And what if the company who developed this technology was based right here in Canada?

Dr. Scott Gray-Owen, a Professor at the Department of Molecular Genetics, University of Toronto, leads a team of scientists who have been testing an anti-microbial coating that can deactivate more than 99% of SARS-CoV-2 on the outer surface of medical masks. The product is developed by I3 Biomedical, a Canadian company headquartered in Mirabel, QC.

In conversation with Chiraz Guessaier, Manager CDA Oasis, Dr. Gray-Owen outlines his work with this breakthrough material. He details its effectiveness and the potential benefit to infection control. He also highlights other exciting areas of COVID-19 research being carried out at the facility.
