The Fort McMurray Fire – a dentistry perspective from Lyle Best

Mr. Lyle Best, Chair of the board of CDSPI, speaks about the fire in Fort McMurray and what dentists can do to help. 

Highlights

• It’s amazing to see the extent of compassion and help that is pouring on Fort McMurray.
• The reality is that there is so much that we don’t know in terms of the extent of the damage and how much it would cost to rebuild.
• If a dentist is required by the government to leave practice, there is a 30-day period for the practice interruption insurance to kick in.
• CDSPI has written over $1M cheques to dentists whose practice has been interrupted and another $1M will be written over the next two weeks.
• Dentists can help by donating to the Red Cross, as mentioned by Mr. Best and Dr. O’Keefe. Individual donations are matched by the federal government.
