Dr. Faleh Tamimi receives grants for work on bone healing and osseointegration. mcgill.ca: Dr. Tamimi along with fellow researchers Dr. Emami, Dr. Murshed and his students have won two separate awards to investigate bone healing and osseointegration while taking system medications, including PPIs and SSRIs. Dental hygiene alumni duo win international social responsibility award. ubc.ca: The winning project was a children’s tooth-brushing program in rural townships of South Africa, which introduced a sustainable model of oral health promotion through the education of local school teachers. Read more

ADA asks lawmakers to help combat prescription opioid abuse. ada.org: As part of its efforts to reduce prescription opioid abuse, the Association is urging lawmakers to pass the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016. The bill calls for establishing a federal task force to develop best practices for pain management and prescribing pain medication. Read more

Researchers use mouse model to study craniofacial disorders. stowers.org: Researchers from the laboratory of Paul Trainor, Ph.D., at the Stowers Institute of Medical Research have developed an effective and reliable technique for studying high-arched palate using a mouse model. Read more
