Mark your calendars for the Canadian Patient Safety Week – October 26-30, 2015
The Canadian Patient Safety Institute will hold the 2015 Canadian Patient Safety Week (CPSW) October 26-30. In conjunction, the Canada’s Virtual Forum on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement will be held virtually October 28th – 30th.

What is Canadian Patient Safety Week?
Canadian Patient Safety Week (CPSW) is a national annual campaign started in 2005 to inspire extraordinary improvement in patient safety and quality. Working together, thousands of healthcare professionals, patients, and families help spread the message to Ask. Listen. Talk. Healthcare facilities and health organizations across Canada participate in the week by holding events and activities to increase awareness of patient safety in their local area.
Who is Canadian Patient Safety Week for?
Canadian Patient Safety Week is for everyone involved in the delivery of healthcare in Canada as well as those receiving care, including healthcare professionals and future healthcare professionals, decision makers, patients, residents, clients, and their families.
What is the theme for Canadian Patient Safety Week?
The theme for Canadian Patient Safety Week is Ask. Listen. Talk. Healthcare professionals, patients, and their families are encouraged to ask questions, listen to the answers, and talk about concerns and ways of improving safety. The 2015 campaign will focus on importance of improving communication between the provider and the patient in order to make care safer.
Why do we need Canadian Patient Safety Week?
The Canadian Patient Safety Institute believes that every patient experience should be safe. Canadian Patient Safety Week encourages everyone to ask, listen, and talk and raise awareness of patient safety issues and solutions.

Why should I register for Canadian Patient Safety Week?
Once you register, you will be added to our email distribution list so you can get updates on the latest news, tools, and resources available to help you during the week and throughout the year. You can also sign up for a package of promotional materials to help celebrate Canadian Patient Safety Week. These materials are available at a nominal charge of $20, and include posters, patient safety magazines and many more promotional items.
When will CPSW packages be sent out?
Packages will be sent out starting mid-September. Please allow approximately one week for delivery of your CPSW package.
Is there a cost associated with registering for Canadian Patient Safety Week?
Over the past 10 years CPSW has grown from 65 participants to over 2000! Starting this year, the packages will be available at a nominal charge of $20. The packages promise to be impressive! These packages will continue to be filled with high quality materials you need to host an effective and fun campaign. The materials will be conversation starters, and patients and providers will be living the CPSW mantra Ask. Listen.Talk. You’ll be proud to display and share the contents with your organization. You can also purchase additional promotional items for the week in our Online Store . It is up to you what activities and events you plan to do in your organization, facility, or community, giving you control over the costs.
What tools and resources will be available to help us plan for the week?
The Canadian Patient Safety Institute will provide several tools and resources on our website, including PowerPoint templates, email templates, games and quizzes, tips sheets, and more. New tools and resources will be available at asklistentalk.ca starting in September.
Are there any requirements of our organization if we sign up for Canadian Patient Safety Week?
No. The Canadian Patient Safety Institute does not require you to report back on your involvement in Canadian Patient Safety Week. We do encourage you to share information about what you are planning for the week and to share your successes, including pictures of your displays, events, and activities, by emailing CPSW@cpsi-icsp.ca . Your great ideas could be posted to our website.
