Illegal BC dentist is still being sought. According to today’s Globe & Mail, private investigators are still seeking an illegal dental practitioner, who practiced in BC over a long period of time. Taking the pulse on access to dental care in Quebec. The Quebec Order of Dentists is to hold a series of public consultations about access to dental care in the province. According to Dr. Barry Dolman, the president of the Order, findings will be released in April 2014. Read more in the Montreal Gazette…

Nova Scotia is expanding certain oral health care services for children. The CBC website article quotes Dr. Heather Carr, past president of the Nova Scotia Dental Association, as saying that getting more kids into the hygienist’s chair is a good opportunity to teach oral health, but she wishes the government had done more consulting with dentists before it expanded the program. International Dentistry News

Are some dental corporate entities in the US skirting regulations relating to dental ownership? The recently published US Senate Finance Committee Joint Staff Report on the Corporate Practice of Dentistry in the Medicaid Program makes this assertion. Clinical and Scientific News

New study about impact of oral health on oral HPV infection. “Overall, this study indicates that poor oral health is an independent risk factor for oral HPV infection.” This study was published in Cancer Prevention Research journal. Read more in ADA News… and in the New York Times…

New study indicates that more Americans are being hospitalized for dental problems. “The study highlights the increasing burden of hospitalization of patients with periapical abscesses over a 9-year period. Among other things, the high-risk groups likely to seek a hospital setting for the treatment of periapical abscesses were identified…” This study was published in the Journal of Endodontics. Interested in promoting oral health among expectant mothers? Dr. Rocio Quinonez of the University of North Carolina (she is a Manitoba dental graduate) told us about a new project she is involved with called the Prenatal Oral Health Program. You can register free of charge to the “Log In” section and have access to an array of useful resources (no problem doing it from Canada).

Research Developments at McGill University Faculty of Dentistry. Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Marc McKee brought latest developments to our attention last week. Read more on the McGill Dentistry website…
