Composite Photopolymerization
- Adding filler reduces the resin phase and reduces potential reaction exotherm
- Filler dramatically affects light transport
- Light reflection, scattering and absorption lead to significant attenuation
- Extend path length
- Absorb light energy to provide heating effects as well as a heat sink that retains elevated temperatures
- Effective cure temperature and the reaction rate affect the final conversion
- Polymer properties, such as refractive index, change considerably during polymerization with an effect on the photocuring process
Resin Composition Photopolymerization
- Different monomers have inherently different polymerization rates
- Copolymerization can be synergistic with an optimum initial viscosity that facilitates autoacceleration
