The Dentist Baker – Following Your Passion on the Path to Wellness

Dr. Sachin Seth
Faculty member, Dalhousie University
Recent Contestant, The Great Canadian Baking Show

Dr. Sachin Seth has always loved food. So much so, that in order to eat what he wanted, he started to make things himself. And so, began his affair with baking, a hobby and creative outlet that would soon snowball into a full-blown passion.

Dr. Seth is also a long-time fan of The Great British Bake Off, the popular TV show in which amateur bakers compete against each other. So, when the show finally made its way to Canadian shores in the form of The Great Canadian Baking Show, he just had to apply. The rest, as they say, is history. But in the wider context of life as a busy dentist, Dr. Seth says baking is about so much more than just cinnamon rolls and almond croissants. It’s about finding a better work-life balance.

In this episode of CDA Oasis Live, the Faculty member at Dalhousie University talks to Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, about the value of pursuing a passion outside of dentistry. He highlights the benefits of a broader perspective, of avoiding burnout, and the importance of not being defined by what you do in your working life.

“You don’t have to move through life being defined by what you do from 9 to 5. When I’m at home hanging out or baking, I give my brain a chance to process what has happened during the day and focus on something else.”
