The Management of Extraction Sites

Dr. Avi Shelemay
Periodontist from Ottawa

When it comes to optimizing outcomes in tooth replacement, there is much to consider before the condemned tooth even comes out of the patient’s mouth. Discussing options with the patient before extraction will open up more possibilities, and will ultimately make life easier when the time comes to place an implant.

In this episode of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. Avi Shelemay, a Periodontist from Ottawa, talks to Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, about the key factors in successful extraction site management. Using his own case studies to illustrate, Dr. Shelemay highlights the importance of preserving the alveolar ridge and the soft tissue. He details the types of graft and barrier materials available, and gives his advice on how to best discuss extraction and tooth replacement with the patient.
