CE Showcase: Update in Oral Lesion Assessment and Cancer Screening
In an effort to keep you informed about CE opportunities available in Canada, we are pleased to offer a series of videos presented by prominent speakers who will lead CE sessions at the Ontario Dental Association’s Annual Spring Meeting ‘ASM 2016’ which will take place May 5 – 7, 2016.
Dr. Joel Laudenbach spoke with Dr. Suham Alexander about his session at ASM 2016 titled: “Update in Oral Lesion Assessment and Cancer Screening.”
During the session, the oral, head and neck cancer screening examination technique will be reviewed in detail, along with helpful recognition and diagnostic strategies. Common oral lesions and head/neck pathology observed in general and specialty dental practice will be presented, as well as updated oral cancer statistics and risk factors. Oral manifestations of systemic diseases will be highlighted using an interactive format. Attendees will learn to recognize when additional testing and/or specialty referrals are indicated. Adjunctive and biopsy techniques will be briefly reviewed, including: tissue reflectance, tissue fluorescence, toluidine blue dye, cytology (i.e., smear and brush cytology) and conventional scalpel biopsy.
Dr. Joel Laudenbach earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania (1998) and completed the general practice residency program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (1999). In 2004, Dr. Laudenbach completed residency/fellowship in oral medicine and geriatric dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Laudenbach is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine, the past president of the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology, and is appointed at Western University of Health Sciences and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
