Update on Recent Discussions around Community Water Fluoridation

Recent discussions about community water fluoridation have arisen following a U.S. court ruling that requires further review by the Environmental Protection Agency, and a recently updated Cochrane review, which found that given the greater exposure of fluoride from other sources in recent times, the oral health benefits of adding fluoride in drinking water are not as substantial as they were prior to 1975.

In this CDA Oasis discussion, Dr. Aaron Burry, CEO of the Canadian Dental Association, discusses the background and context of these developments, and offers advice to dentists on how to talk to patients who may have questions around community water fluoridation.
