ADA Publishes Clinical Practice Guideline for the Pharmacologic Management of Acute Dental Pain in Adolescents and Adults

The Journal of the American Dental Association has published a new evidence-based clinical practice guideline for the pharmacologic management of acute dental pain in adolescents, adults, and older adults. The guideline follows a similar guideline published in 2023 for the pharmacologic management of acute dental pain in children.

In this CDA Oasis discussion, Dr. Mark Donaldson, a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pharmacy, University of Montana in Missoula, outlines the importance of this development for the dental profession and for public health, and highlights the key recommendations outlined in the report.

Dr. Donaldson is also a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Dentistry at the Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia, and currently serves as an Associate Principal, Pharmacy Advisory Solutions at Vizient Inc.
