Cultural Safety in the Dental Office

Friday, June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day when we recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across the country.

In this CDA Oasis discussion, Dr. Sheri McKinstry, a pediatric dentist from Saskatoon and founding member of the Indigenous Dental Association of Canada, outlines the core elements of cultural safety and offers insights into how dentists can implement cultural safety in their offices.

“We need to understand. We need to learn Indigenous history but use it in a good way. A lot of that is to understand how we are behaving in the dental clinic. It’s about releasing the power in the relationship that we are having.”
