Adopting the correct posture at work is an important factor in improving workplace safety, productivity, and avoiding musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) or cumulative trauma disorders.
In this video, Tim Caruso, a physical therapist from Community Physical Therapy Addison, Illinois, who has worked extensively with the dental profession since 1988 in the fields of ergonomics, injury prevention and productivity, discusses the importance of ergonomics in the practise of dentistry. He highlights the most common consequences of poor posture at the office and offers advice on what dentists can do to make their practise more ergonomically friendly.
“Once dental professionals start working with a patient, they will do everything possible to keep the patient comfortable, and that includes assuming a variety of interesting and awkward postures, often to their own detriment.”
