Speroway to El Salvador

Speroway Canada conducts volunteer humanitarian missions in poorer countries around the world.   Speroway’s recent mission to  El Salvador Approximately 35% of El Salvador lives in extreme poverty with limited access to health care, clean water and education.  Children are often the most affected by the lack of dental care and caries affects their ability to eat properly. Caries related pain can prevent children from advancing at school and adults from working productively.  In El Salvador, oral health care is mainly offered by regional or central hospitals in cities.  Preventive or restorative care is less emphasized. CDA @ Work: CDA meets with the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD)

The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) and the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD) held one of its regular meetings on February 9 in Ottawa at the CDA head office.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues of common interest.  Among the key topics discussed were:  advocacy for federal research support and training of future scientists and teachers; Oasis; the JCDA scholarly edition;  issues related to patients with special needs and practice management curriculum.  In attendance at the meeting were (left to right in the photograph): CDA’s Director of Clinical and Scientific Affairs, Dr. Benoit Soucy, the CDA President, Dr. Gary ...

The Implications of Ebola for Dentistry – a webinar from ADA/CDC/OSAP

What is the impact of the Minamata Convention on Mercury on dentistry?

Context In February 2009, the Governing Council of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) agreed on the need to develop a global legally binding instrument, or treaty, on mercury. It tasked governments to negotiate through an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Mercury, which met five times beginning in June 2010 and concluding in January 2013. The resulting international instrument is called the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
