The ICD International Council Report for 2014

This report was submitted by Dr. Jack McLister and Dr. Donna Brode The ICD meeting was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney Australia. Dr. Jack McLister and Dr. Donna Brode were present as the councilors from Canada. President Joseph Kenneally welcomed all and presided over the meeting giving best wishes from President Woong Yang who could not attend for health reasons. The President’s greeting – Summary Dr. Randall Croutze On March 6-7, British Columbia, hosted the 65th Annual Meeting of the ICD Canadian Section in conjunction with the British Columbia Dental Association’s Pacific Dental Conference. The past International President Garry Lunn represented International President Woong Yang. Remote Area Medical Volunteers Canada

Dr. Gary Samson and Dr. Ian Doyle lead a humanitarian mission to the remote areas of Guyana. RAMV mission to the Pakaraima Mountain area of Guyana, South America. Empowering the Amerindians to service the dental needs of the remote village of Paramakatoi and the surrounding villages in the Pakaraima Mountains of Guyana has been the goal of Dr. Ian Doyle since his first volunteer dental mission there in 2007.  At the request of the Guyanese government, the mission’s goal was to provide dental services to this remote area accessible only by air.  Retired dentist Dr. Gary Samson organized the mission ...

The International College of Dentists (Canadian Section) presents Student Awards.   ICD Award presented to U of T student The Canadian Section of the International College of Dentists presents awards annually to students in their third year at 10 Dental Schools in Canada.  Recipients are selected based on their academic record, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities. Speroway to El Salvador

Speroway Canada conducts volunteer humanitarian missions in poorer countries around the world.   Speroway’s recent mission to  El Salvador Approximately 35% of El Salvador lives in extreme poverty with limited access to health care, clean water and education.  Children are often the most affected by the lack of dental care and caries affects their ability to eat properly. Caries related pain can prevent children from advancing at school and adults from working productively.  In El Salvador, oral health care is mainly offered by regional or central hospitals in cities.  Preventive or restorative care is less emphasized. CDA @ Work: CDA meets with the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD)
