The Canadian Dental Association Annual General Meeting

April 10-12, 2014: The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ottawa.

During the AGM, the new CDA Essentials magazine was officially launched. The magazine is intended to facilitate dialogue between the national association and the dental community. It is dedicated to keeping dentists informed about news, issues and clinically relevant information.

Dr. Gary MacDonald of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, is the new CDA President

The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) announces the installation of Dr. Gary R. MacDonald as its new President for 2014–15. The official announcement was made during the CDA General Assembly, held April 12, 2014, in Ottawa.

Dr. MacDonald has been involved in organized dentistry since 1981, when he served as president of the Newfoundland Dental Association (1981–83). He was a member of the National Health Care Advisory Committee to Correctional Services Canada (1985–97) and chaired this committee for 3 years (1994–97). Dr. MacDonald served as executive director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Association (NLDA) from 1987–2004. He was elected to the CDA Board of Directors in 2005 and has served on numerous committees and working groups during his time on the CDA Board.

Dr. MacDonald has received several awards in dentistry, including the CDA Award of Merit (1998), Dalhousie University’s Outstanding Alumnus Award (2002) and the NLDA’s Distinguished Service Award (2003) and Life Membership (2011).

Dr. MacDonald earned his DDS degree from Dalhousie University in 1975. He maintains a private dental practice in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, where he resides with his wife Marie. The couple has 4 daughters.
