Educational Webinar on MRONJ: A Multidisciplinary Approach

In this short interview, Dr. Deborah Saunders, Medical Director of Dental Oncology at Health Sciences North, and Associate Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Sudbury, Ontario, introduces the upcoming educational webinar Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: A Multidisciplinary Approach.

With a primary focus on the education of community dentists in the management of MRONJ, the webinar is free of charge and will feature expert speakers from across Canada who will present the most up to date guidance as published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Saunders points out that in the last decade, with medical advances to benefit patients, there has been a significant increase in the number of cancer patients who are prescribed medications that can lead to MRONJ, and so it is more important than ever to engage community dentists in both the prevention and management of this condition.

“Because there is little evidence-based treatment for MRONJ, prevention is key. And that comes down to communication between the medical oncology team and the community dentist to make sure that patients have a healthy oral status before commencing these types of medication.”
