Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder consisting of frequent pauses in breathing and/or shallow breathing during sleep It affects both children and adults significantly but differently. In children sleep apnea can cause behavioural issues, affect school performance and have long lasting effects on cerebral and cardiovascular development.

Dr. Brad Lands is an orthodontist from Toronto with a special interest in pediatric sleep apnea. In this edition of CDA Oasis Live, Dr. Lands talks to Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, about the presentation of sleep apnea in pediatric patients, and introduces a simple questionnaire that can be used to identify sleep apnea in the dental office.
