Given their proximity to patients during treatment and the types of procedures they perform, dentists are considered a high-risk group for acquiring COVID-19. Yet there is no current data or literature to evaluate the incidence rate of COVID-19 in Canadian dentists, nor is it known which dental procedures carry a high risk.
In this edition of the Canadian Association for Dental Research Roundtable, Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, invites three leading dental research professionals to introduce their ongoing study into the incidence of COVID-19 in Canadian dentists.
In a panel style discussion, Dr. Sreenath Madathil, Dr. Walter Siquiera, and Dr. Paul Allison outline the objectives and mechanics of their study, give a brief update on progress, and express their hope that the data collected will assist regulatory bodies with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols for dentists going forward.

Do you have any statistics how many dentists have died from COVID-19 in Canada?
2. How are you accounting for selection bias in your sample of dentists?
3. Based on global statistics, you might reasonably expect 2 positive results a month from your sample size. How are you dealing with a positive COVID-19 test result in your study? It may be a false positive, or a true positive and yet the dentist would have to stop working in the light of a positive result?
