How Can You Stay Hydrated With All the Protective Equipment?

Research in high performance athletes shows that with the loss of as little as 1% of body weight in moisture, mental focus, reaction time and executive function are all significantly diminished. In recent months, with the advent of additional PPE, N95 masks and increased breathing through the mouth, dentists are running the risk of getting dehydrated at the office.

“There’s an old saying that says ‘dig your well before you’re thirsty.’ Staying hydrated is an easy and important strategy to ensure you are performing at peak performance.”

Dr. Uche Odiatu, a General Dentist from Toronto and well-known speaker on wellness and fitness, talks to Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, about staying hydrated through a busy shift at the dental office.

Dr. Odiatu shares a simple hydration strategy he uses, gives advice on what not to drink, and stresses the importance of drinking before you’re thirsty.
