Conducting Oral Health Research During COVID-19

The Oral Health Research Community across Canada has been affected by COVID-19 just like everybody else. Laboratories have been shut down to all non-COVID-19-related projects since mid-march; and many researchers are forced to work from home. Yet still, the work goes on.

So, what’s it like conducting Oral Health research during a global pandemic? What are the challenges and opportunities? And what sort of projects have been prompted by COVID-19?

Dr. John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, talks to Dr. Paul Allison of McGill University, Dr. Lina Marin of University of Saskatchewan, and Dr. Mario Brondani of University of British Columbia, about the projects they have been working on during the pandemic.

From teledentistry to a saliva-based Point-of-Care tests to a qualitative study on the most pressing COVID-19-related issues facing dentists, Dr. Allison, Dr. Marin and Dr. Brondani share their thoughts on upcoming projects and the implications their work may have for dentists in the months and years ahead.
