Active Patient Communication During the COVID-19 Pandemic

One aspect of our day-to-day lives most severely affected by the Covid-19 crisis is the way we communicate. With waiting rooms and operatories empty, many dentists across Canada have not had face-to-face contact with their patients for several weeks now. And with each passing week, public engagement with oral health dwindles a little bit more.

So, is there anything we can do in the meantime to stay engaged with our patients, alleviate concern, and promote oral health?

Dr. Stephen Abrams, a general dentist from Toronto, speaks with John O’Keefe, Director of Knowledge Networks CDA, about the strategies he and his colleagues have been using to communicate with patients during the lockdown.

He discusses the benefits of Facebook and email and voices his hope that the dental community of Canada will take advantage of what he sees as a golden opportunity to raise awareness of the ongoing value of oral healthcare.
