CDA Oasis Roundtable: Steps to Improve Cybersecurity in Your Practice

Welcome to our third CDA Oasis Roundtable, where dentists and others in our sector gather to discuss important day-to-day issues in dental practice. In this episode, Anne Genge, cybersecurity expert, answers questions from four dentists and two dental office managers about the issues they face in relation with cybersecurity.

Nowadays, it seems that everything relies on computers and the internet from communication to entertainment to shopping to medical equipment and medical records. And the list goes on. Cybersecurity is the art of protecting networks, devices, and data from unauthorized access or criminal use and the practice of ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.

Defending yourself against cyber-attacks starts with understanding the risks associated with cyber activity, what some of the basic cybersecurity terms mean, and what you can do to protect yourself.

There are many risks, some more serious than others. Among these dangers are malware erasing your entire system, an attacker breaking into your system and altering files, an attacker using your computer to attack others, or an attacker stealing your credit card information and making unauthorized purchases. There is no guarantee that even with the best precautions some of these things won't happen to you, but there are steps you can take to minimize the chances.

We look forward to welcoming you to the next episode of Oasis Roundtable. We welcome your suggestions about topics for discussion and we invite you to participate in an upcoming discussion. Just contact us and we will let you know how we can make this happen.

Till next time, we wish you the best in your practice……
