Be Informed About Informed Consent with Dr. Mike Racich

A regular contributor to CDA Oasis, Dr. Mike Racich is back to tackle the topic of informed patient consent in a dental office setting and to review best-practices as well as why dentists should view informed consent as a process rather than a procedure.

About Dr. Racich

Dr. Mike Racich is a general dentist in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a graduate of UBC Dental School with more than 30-years’ experience. Since the late 1990’s, he has been mentoring his dental colleagues and does so currently via didactic and clinical study clubs, coaching, consultation, proprietary programs, and lecturing. He has also written several dental articles in peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications, and authored three books

During this discussion, Dr. Racich reviews a number of presentation slides to talks about:

  • Understanding informed consent within a dental practice context.
  • What forms to use when obtaining informed consent and where dentists can access them.
  • The role of informed consent within evidence-based care.
  • Informed consent as a process.
  • Searching and referencing appropriate peer reviewed research.
  • Customizing and using consent forms in your practice and record keeping.
  • Using the SOAPP technique (subjective objective assessment and plan and prognosis)
