CDA Convention in PEI: Transitioning Into or Out of a Dental Practice


It promises to be the event of the summer! The Dental Association of PEI is holding its joint convention with the Canadian Dental Association in Charlottetown August 22nd to 25th, 2018. A great scientific as well as social  program awaits PEI guests along with a sizeable number of exhibitors who are showing their latest and brightest products and technologies. 

Dr. Bernie Dolansky has had a distinguished dental career including service as President of: the Ottawa Dental Society, the Ontario Dental Association, and the Canadian Dental Association as well as having been a director of the Ash Temple companies and a consultant to Henry Schein Canada. He has also served on numerous professional and volunteer boards and has been awarded Honorary Membership in both the CDA and the ODA.

Most dentists will buy or sell a practice only once in their professional careers. It becomes imperative to get it right the first time because there are very real and painful consequences for getting it wrong.
This presentation will review the current market conditions for practices in Canada and the drivers of value in a practice as well as strategies that one can implement to increase the value of the practice that is being sold or understand the parameters that are important when buying a practice.  The presentation will include market factors; the factors that influence the value of a dental practice; what you can do to enhance the value as a buyer or a seller; practical timelines for buying or selling a practice; practice valuations; tax considerations; contract pitfalls for the buyer or the seller; and creative strategies for achieving YOUR transition goals.

Session objectives:

  • Determine the readiness to buy or sell a practice
  • Analyze current market conditions and identify future predictors
  • Identify key practice value drivers
  • Identify strategies to maximize the after-tax gain
  • Understand the importance of good contracts
  • Assess options for transitioning into or out of a practice         
  •  Learn how to develop and execute a transition plan.
