The Clinical Use of Dental Hypnosis and Its Role in Stress Management
As the Ontario Dental Association‘s Annual Spring Meeting approaches, we at CDA Oasis are pleased to bring you highlights of some of the speakers and the sessions that will be offered this year. It is my hope that you learn from the various conversations; and if you happen to be in Toronto, you find it interesting enough to attend the event.
I had the pleasure to host Dr. Gabor Filo. Dr. Filo is a Diplomat of the American Board of Hypnosis in Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and an Honorary Member of the Ontario Division of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Dr. Filo’s practice focuses on the non-pharmacological treatment of dental anxiety and phobia.
Dr. Filo will lead two sessions at ASM2018: Hypnosis Revealed and Stress Management with Meditative and Hypnotic Techniques.
ASM2018 is the single largest venue where the dental team members can earn continuing education credits all under one roof. The meeting offers a broad and diverse range of renowned speakers and topics for dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and office staff. There will be lectures, workshops and various exhibitors, showcasing the latest products and services from more than 300 companies.

The dental team has a unique opportunity to acquire an understanding of trance, hypnosis and self-hypnosis. Hypnotic technologies and natural spontaneous trance states are an everyday occurrence. Insight into our ubiquitous natural ability will lead to an overview of its many clinical uses in dentistry, medicine and psychology, as well as for entertainment and marketing. The clinical use of dental hypnosis – hypnodontics – is emphasized. At the end of the day, attendees will have a better grasp of interpersonal and therapeutic communication. This lecture is a ground-laying prerequisite for those attending the afternoon stress-management workshop using hypnotic and meditative techniques. References and resources will be available for those interested in expanding their life skills.
The session will allow attendees to:
- To gain insight and understanding into a natural inborn activity and how we daily experience trance, hypnosis, self-hypnosis
- To receive an introduction into the history, neurology and psychology of hypnosis
- To have an appreciation of its many applications clinically and in personal daily life
The Session will take place on April 26, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm.
