NCOHR Outreach activities in the Canadian dental schools

The Network for Canadian Oral Health Research (NCOHR) was recently awarded five-year funding for the continued support of oral health researchers in Canada. The members of NCOHR are extremely grateful for the generous contributions received from their funding partners:

  • the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), in partnership with three of its institutes:
    • Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA)
    • Institute of Aging (IA)
    • Institute of Infection and Immunity (III)
  • the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD),
  • the Canadian Association of Dental Research (CADR),
  • the Canadian Dental Association (CDA),
  • Réseau de recherche en Santé buccodentaire et osseuse (RSBO), and
  • MEDTEQ – a Quebec Consortium for Industrial Research and Innovation in Medical Technology.

Dr. Alain Moreau, Director of the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research (NCOHR), is hosting Town Hall meetings at each Canadian dental school to share details on the network’s five-year strategic plan and to further encourage the creation of collaborative research partnerships.  The Town Hall entails a brief presentation on “NCOHR’s New Programs and Activities: Advancing Collaborative Oral Health Research to Better Address the Needs of Canadians”, which is followed by a discussion and Q&A session. As part of his visit, Dr. Moreau is also meeting separately with researchers/research groups/trainees interested in learning more about how the network can support their research.

Further details on the meetings are available from each dental school. The schedule is:

  • Université de Montréal (Oct 24)
  • McGill University (Oct 25)
  • University of British Columbia (Oct 30)
  • University of Alberta (Oct 31)
  • University of Saskatchewan (Nov 1)
  • University of Manitoba (Nov 2)
  • University of Toronto (Nov 8)
  • Dalhousie University (Dec 13)
  • Western University (Dec 15)
  • Laval University (TBA)

The presentations highlight the network’s planned research funding opportunities and activities designed to support the oral health research community in Canada. Specifically, the network aims to bring value to the oral health research community, ensure that the Network and Canada are internationally recognized as the leader in oral health research, and support exceptional training in oral health research. In line with these goals, the network has created an International Scientific Advisory Board and a Citizen Advisory Board for the Advancement of Oral Health. In parallel, the network has formed seven important working groups comprising of network members. The plans for this year and next will demonstrate the network’s commitment to bridge the translation gap between academic research and industry, and translate research advances into tangible benefits for Canada.
