Nunavut child dental health project gets $6.9M expansion. cbc.ca: Children from 25 communities will be flown out for dental surgery as part of the 3-year project. New money for dental surgery in Nunavut is a good investment, but not based on valuable feedback from those in the know, according to one dentist. Read more
Research study on oral health seeks Islanders over 50. upei.ca: A research team at the University of Prince Edward Island is seeking volunteers to participate in an anonymous online survey. There is currently limited research into what influences older adults’ knowledge of the link between oral health and chronic diseases. Read more

The “Tau of Teeth” adds value to bone integration studies. utoronto.ca: A mathematical construct, Tau has been assisting mathematicians and engineers in solving complex problems through the ages. But thanks to Faculty of Dentistry MSc student Rob Liddell (1T5), Tau will also be known for a breakthrough in the field of dental implants. Read more
Outreach Programs to benefit from extraordinary donation to Faculty. mcgill.ca: Dental care for Montreal’s most vulnerable people has just received a fantastic boost through an extraordinary donation to the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill. Read more
Dr. Ralph Barolet: 1929–2015. mcgill.ca: The McGill Faculty of Dentistry is saddened by the loss of Dr. Ralph Barolet, former Dean of the Faculty, who passed away at the age of 85 on March 22, 2015 in Montreal. Read more
Third annual Sharing Smiles Day to promote oral health for people with special needs. mcgill.ca: In an attempt to educate and improve oral health care for people with special needs, the Montreal chapter of Oral Health Total Health (OHTH), will be hosting its third annual Sharing Smiles Day event in Montreal. The event will be held on April 19, 2015 at the Miriam Home. Read more
Health Sciences’ student-led initiative reaches success. umanitoba.ca: 44 kids participated in a 14-week after school pilot project called CanU Reach, held weekly at the Bannatyne Campus. The hands-on, interprofessional workshops were designed and facilitated by medical, dentistry, occupational therapy, and pharmacy students; over 100 Faculty of Health Sciences students volunteered throughout the 14 weeks. CMA launches website to build support for National Seniors Strategy. cma.ca: In conjunction with a broad alliance of partner organizations, the CMA has launched DemandAPlan.ca, a website to build a community of support for a National Seniors Strategy and make seniors care a major issue in the upcoming federal election. Treating a common gum condition could reduce risk of heart attacks in kidney disease patients. sciencedaily.com: Recent research suggests that increased mortality in people with CKD may be linked with chronic inflammatory conditions such as periodontitis, which causes gum inflammation, loss of the bone that supports the teeth and ultimately tooth loss. Kids can use doxycycline without significant teeth staining. ada.org: Physicians can have more confidence giving kids under age 8 an antibiotic treatment for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever that is associated with teeth staining in youth, according to a study published online in March in The Journal of Pediatrics.
