What is FDI?
FDI World Dental Federation serves as the principal representative organization for more than one million dentists worldwide, developing health policy and continuing education programs, speaking as a unified voice for dentistry in international advocacy, and supporting member associations in oral health promotion activities worldwide.
Over the years, FDI has developed programs, initiatives, campaigns, policies and congresses, always with a view to occupying a space that no other not-for-profit group can claim.
FDI works at the international and national levels through its own activities and those of its members.
What is Canada’s role in the FDI Annual World Dental Congress?
- Canada presents FDI with an update on the status of dentistry in Canada, in terms of accomplishments and issues.
- Canada participates in drafting FDI policy statements on oral health which are used worldwide.
- Through CDA’s consultations with its corporate and constituents members at CDA, Canada has a significant impact on the discussions during the FDI parliamentary meetings.
What is CDA’s role in the FDI Annual World Dental Congress?
During the FDI Annual World Dental Congress, CDA has the opportunity to maintain its relationships with world national dental associations.
FDI provides CDA with a unique platform for influencing global policies on oral health, networking with other countries, and combining resources and efforts to advocate globally for dentistry.
Why is this meeting important for dentistry and Canadian dentists in particular?
Canada, through CDA, has an obligation to maintain an international presence at FDI. In order to dialogue and work collaboratively with national and international organizations as well as defend and promote Canada’s interests on the global stage, Canada has to be at the FDI Annual World Dental Congress.
