The Manitoba Dental Association’s “We Be Brushin” public service announcement video wins an international advertising award

Winnipeg’s Traffic Advertising company has been honoured with both a Visionary Award and a Leader Award in the 2013 Summit Emerging Media Award (EMA) competition in the Health/Fitness category for its 60 second Public Service Announcement and two minute Music Video “We Be Brushin”, created for its client, the Manitoba Dental Association.

Created and produced by Traffic Advertising and Nüman Films last year, the hip-hop video and public service television commercial was shot on location in Winnipeg. The video features more than 30 children ranging in age from 5–15, dancers from Magic N Motion, as well as several Manitoba dentists and sports celebrities.

Set to a cool rap track and using a funky shooting style, original choreography, special effects and props, the video generates awareness and attracts attention from young people with the message that taking care of your teeth can be fun, is important to look and feel great, and offers long-term health benefits.

The Summit EMA evolved through a need to recognize and celebrate creativity, innovation and those pushing the bounds of creative excellence in all forms of emerging media. “Most communication professionals recognize that established avenues of communication can be reliable and safe, however audiences are becoming increasingly fragmented and difficult to engage, inform and affect.” said Jocelyn Luciano, Executive Director for the Summit International Awards (SIA). “Developing, applying and combining emerging media with creative messaging and market awareness is challenging. Achieving this synthesis is what makes earning a Summit EMA a significant achievement.”

This SIA organization is dedicated to furthering creative excellence in the communications, offering a true competitive environment where entries are judged alongside those of their peers. The EMA’s 2013 competition included more than a thousand entries from over 50 countries across five continents. Fewer than 8% earned recognition.

Walter Kulyk, Traffic’s President & Creative Director, says “We are very excited to receive this industry honour for the Manitoba Dental Association. Special thanks to Jeff Newman, President of Nüman Films, Director Quinn Greene and his amazing crew, and to the MDA for allowing us to create and produce this important and fun project.”
